Why These 10 Days Are Unmatched
The first ten days of Dhul Hijjah are the most virtuous days of the entire Islamic calendar. Allah ﷻ Himself swore an oath by them in the Quran — a divine testament to their weight and sanctity that no other period shares.
Unlike Ramadan, which is the holiest of months, these ten days are described by the scholars as the holiest days. Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله held that the daytime of Dhul Hijjah is superior even to the nights of Ramadan, because the Day of ʿArafah falls within them — a day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than any other.
Quranic Verse
وَالْفَجْرِ وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ
“By the dawn, and by the ten nights.”
Sūrat al-Fajr · 89:1–2 — Many mufassirūn explain the “ten nights” as the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah such as Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما.
